Tiago Correia

Conference President

Tiago Correia is an Associate Professor of International Health at NOVA Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (IHMT-NOVA). Dr. Correia has awarded his PhD in sociology of health at ISCTE-Lisbon University Institute and won a post-doctoral fellowship at the Research Institute of Public Health at the University of Montreal, after which he returned to Portugal to coordinate undergraduate and graduate courses in research methods in health, health promotion, social theory applied to health, and medical epistemology. Dr. Correia has participated in several research teams and networks with competitive funding in Portugal, Brazil and Canada, either as a principal investigator, work package leader, country representative or consultant. His academic pathway complements with specialized consultancy for international agencies in project design and implementation, policy advisory, and science communication. In 2020, he joined Wiley to be named Editor-in-Chief of International Journal of Health Planning and Management. He is also member of advisory board of European Society for Health and Medical Sociology (ESHMS). His work has been published in the format of articles, books and chapters, and has been awarded internationally and nationally.

Gilles Dussault

Conference Vice President

Gilles Dussault has been a Professor between 2006 and 2018 at IHMT, where he occupied various functions, including Director of the of International Public Health, President of the Ethics Committee and Coordinator of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center on Health Workforce Policy and Planning. Before joining IHMT, he worked as Senior Health Specialist at the World Bank Institute (Washington D.C.). Between 1985 and 2000, he was Professor and Director (1990-91, 1998-2000) of the Department of Health Administration, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Montreal, Canada. Between 1974 and 1985, he was Professor in the Department of Industrial Relations at University Laval, in Québec. His main research interest is the formulation and implementation of health workforce. Since 1986, he has been involved in international cooperation projects in North and Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and Central and South-America. Professor Dussault has also been a consultant for different agencies and foundations and he has also participated in working groups and committees of the World Health Organization and other international organizations and professional associations. He is a regular collaborator of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies on health workforce topics. He is member of various editorial committees of peer-reviewed journals. His publications focus on topics related to the planning, regulation and management of the health workforce.

Ellen Kuhlmann

EUPHA HWR President

Ellen Kuhlmann MPH PhD is the initiator and president of the EUPHA Health Workforce Research Section, and currently based at Hannover Medical School, Germany. She has many years of international experience, most recently in 2019 as guest professor at Aarhus University, Denmark. Her main research areas include health workforce, health systems and governance, and gender and public health. Ellen Kulmann has Clinical experience as a specialised nurse.

André Beja

Conference Manager

André Beja is PhD candidate at IHMT-NOVA. His research is related to HRH, namely on the profile, activity and training of Healthcare Assistants in Portugal. With participation in the staff of some research projects and scientific initiatives, he is currently working as a research fellow in the InfAct (Information for Action!) project, the Joint Action on Health Information funded by the European Union and occasionally collaborates with the World Health Organization Collaborating Center on Health Workforce Policy and Planning based on IHMT. MSc in health and development, he has previous experience as a ER nurse, adult trainer and teacher.
